Whether you're preparing a romantic dinner for two or a grand celebration with family and friends, no table setting is complete without a great set of wine glasses.
The wine glasses you choose can make or break your dinner party. Nothing spoils the mood like serving wine in cheap plastic glasses at your fancy gathering. On the contrary, it says very little about your taste, or the respect you have for your guests. When you're planning a party, particularly a fabulous affair, plastic wine glasses just won't do. You need to bring out the real glass and crystal.
If your guest list is limited to a few close friends, you can easily purchase enough glasses to use and keep on hand. Choose a style that you love, and that will suit any occasion. There are specialized glasses available, such as those made with red and green glass for Christmas entertaining, but most people will do well by having a dozen or so glasses in classic designs. Wine charms come in all sorts of themes and designs, and are a fun way to personalize your glasses for special events.
For larger groups such as weddings or reunions, speak to a caterer or party supply store. These professionals have good quality wine glasses available that you can rent for a reasonable price.
If you do choose to purchase wine glasses, you'll find a wide variety of sizes and styles to choose from. There are beautiful and economical cut glass designs, or you can go for higher quality (and more expensive) crystal wine glasses. Either material is a great choice and will look and feel infinitely better than their cheap plastic counterparts. You just can't truly enjoy wine out of a plastic glass, and your guests can't either.
The type of wine glasses that you choose should also reflect they variety of wine you'll be serving. Red wine is generally served in a goblet or a taller glass with a wider bowl, while white wine glasses are typically shorter. Serving champagne in a proper flute is an absolute must. If you plan on serving only one type of wine then you can safely invest in one style of glass, however it's usually best to buy a variety of glasses to accommodate everyone's tastes. This will show your guests that you are a good host who appreciates their company.
Any party has the potential to be a blast, or a bust. Invest in a great set of wine glasses, and you've got the setting for a night to remember.
